#stampinup This week’s Create with Connie and Mary challenge is a color challenge. I really like this bold combination of colors–any color combo with Basic Black makes me happy! Black is my favorite color. Really, it is! It goes with everything (and it’s so slimming).
I knew I wanted to use a bold image with this color combination, so I grabbed the “Awesomely Artistic” set and got to work. I stamped the floral imagine in Cajun Craze onto Very Vanilla card stock. I used blender pens to add Hello Honey to the flowers. To color the leaves, I used an “empty” blender pen–in other words, I didn’t pick up ink from a pad, but I pulled the ink from the stamped image to add some subtle color. When I finished coloring the flowers, I added a black dot in the center with a Project Life Journaling Pen. I’m from Maryland and our state flower is a black-eyed Susan, so I thought that was fitting! I fussy cut this image with my Paper Snips.
I stamped “friend” from the “Awesomely Artistic” set in Basic Black Archival Ink onto a Very Vanilla scrap. I stamped the frame from the “Rose Wonder” stamp set around the sentiment and then cut it out with the matching Rose Garden Framelit.
I cut a Hello Honey card base, a Basic Black mat, and a Cajun Craze panel. I liked the way the colors looked together, but I needed some texture, so I embossed the Cajun Craze panel with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder. There was still something missing. Fortunately, I had a strip of Basic Black Designer Series Paper from the Neutrals Color Collection DSP Stack in my “card parts” stash on my desk. I was going to use the side with the white writing, but noticed that the back side had dots! Score! I love it when things come together accidentally!
After I added the DSP to the card, I wrapped a length of Basic Black Stitched Satin Ribbon around the panel. I adhered the flowers and label with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
And then I went a little crazy–crazy because I could have made a horrible mess, but it turned out OK in the end. I took the Gold Wink of Stella Pen and colored around the cut edge of the flowers–kind of adding a gold leaf effect. Then I took the Clear Wink of Stella Pen and added glimmer all over the flowers. The final piece is really pretty, but I couldn’t get quite the angle on it for a photo, so you’re just going to have to take my word for it!
