I don’t know why, but sometimes I get lost in a design and start to think I’ve created a hot mess and there’s no way out but to rip it up and start over. But other times, I get a little spark of inspiration and figure out how to fix my card.
I’m playing along in this week’s Create with Connie and Mary color challenge and I figured it would be easy enough because these are the colors are in the Birthday Bash Specialty Series paper.
I choose the sheet with the bold Night of Navy stripes. And then, um, well, hmm, that’s kind of a bold statement piece and I still had to add in Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry. OK, so I decided to stamp a sentiment from the Perfect Pennants set in Night of Navy ink and cut it with the Banners Framelits. I backed that banner with a larger one cut from the Birthday Bash DSP. Nice. Now what?
I got out a Crushed Curry card base and I embossed a Calypso Coral layer with the Large Polka Dot embossing folder. I pulled out the Calypso Coral Pompom Trim and stapled one end of it to the banner. I intended to staple the other end….somewhere. I laid everything together and…meh. I didn’t like it. Not at all.
I fiddled around with the Pompom Trim and got it to where it was acceptable (but nothing to write home about), but I still didn’t like the card. Then I got a flash—how about I cut a second banner out of another sheet of the Birthday Bash DSP–a Crushed Curry sheet? Yep! That’s the ticket! Getting better. But I still wasn’t satisfied.
I switched out the Crushed Curry card base with a Night of Navy card base and, finally, I liked this card and design. It was a long, and winding road, but I finally got to my destination!!
