Welcome to the January 2024 Creation Station blog hop! This month we’re featuring creations that are fuzzy and furry. Well, I got half the assignment right–my creation is furry and scaly! I used Stampin’ Up’s “Zany Zoo” suite on pages 46 and 47 of the annual catalog to create a fun pivot card that showcases the zany cast of characters.
That Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper is the best! I has all the zoo animals–some of which can be cut with the matching dies–and black and white patterns on the back! I adhered a 3-3/4″ by 5″ piece of DSP to a 4″ by 5-1/4″ Basic Black Card Stock mat. The card base is a half sheet of Petal Pink Card Stock cut “hotdog” style. I used the Stylish Shapes Dies to cut Basic Black and Basic Black Card Stock circles. PROTIP: You can die-cut the banner and circle out of this piece before adhering the DSP.
The sentiment is from the “Zany Zoo” stamp set, stamped in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The alligator is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Basic White Card Stock, colored withe Parakeet Parade, Petal Pink, Crumb Cake, and Basic Black Stampin’ Blends, and then die cut with the matching Zany Zoo Die. I added Balmy Blue Iridescent Pastel Gems to the front and used a length of Black and White 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon to hold the card closed.
The fun comes when the card is opened! On the inside I used the black and white sides of the Zoo Crew DSP on the top and bottom. I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from the “Phrases for All” stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Ink and the Petal Pink hearts onto a 3-1/2″ square of Basic White Card Stock. PROTIP: To make the sentiment pop, after stamping, I quickly sprinkled on Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and set it with my Heat Tool.
Each of the four pop-out sections is built using a 2-1/4″ square of the Zany Zoo DSP, a Basic White square cut with a Stylish Shapes Die, then one of the zoo characters. Each character is stamped onto Basic White Card Stock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, colored with Stampin’ Blends, and then cut with the matching Zany Zoo Die. The Basic White squares and zoo characters are mounted using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To achieve just one word on the banners, I colored the individual words with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped onto Basic White, I cut the banner using the thinest Stylish Shapes banner die, aligning each end so that the resulting banner is shorter than the die. I did the same with the polka dotted DSP onto which the banners are adhered.
Here’s a little video showing how the pivot card opens and closes. It’s such a fun card to make and give!
I hope you enjoyed my furry and not so furry creation! I’d be thrilled if you’d leave a comment and then keep hopping to Sara Nell. You can also join us on Instagram.
