Fall is finally here and we’re heading toward the top three end-of year holidays here in the US: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Our Creation Station theme for October really lends itself to a Halloween project, but I don’t really do Halloween now that my kids are grown. So my interpretation of our them may be a bit different from the rest of the team. I can’t wait to see their creations, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at my Into The Night project!

When I started to think about my Into The Night project, I looked at the stamp sets I own. I have the beautiful Shepherd’s Care set (designed by my friend Cindy Fodor) that has stars in it. That was a good place to start..and then I set about to create my card. I never know if my designs are genius or a hot mess, so I’ll let you be the judge. Here’s the card.

I started by stamping the large and small stars in Lemon Lolly onto a Basic White Card Stock panel. Working quickly before the ink dried, I sprinkled on Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and set it with the Heat Tool. I like to use that technique to give a stamped image some shine–it especially works when you stamp onto colored card stock. Then I used a Blending Brush to add Balmy Blue, Azure Afternoon, and Blueberry Bushel Inks across the panel to create my into the night sky. I used a tissue to remove the ink from the embossed stars. Then I flicked some Wink of Stella onto the panel.

Next, I stamped the village scene in Night of Navy Ink before embossing the panel using the Dotted Circles 3D Embossing Folder.
I adhered the panel to a Night of Navy Card Stock mat and then used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere to an Azure Afternoon Card Stock card base. I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy Ink onto Balmy Blue Card Stock and embossed it with Clear Stampin’ Embossing Powder. And I used one of the Greetings of the Season Dies to cut it out.
Do you have a guess what my inspiration for the Into the Night card is? Does this help?

And then I got the crazy (or genius?) idea to put the tree in the foreground of the card. So I created another stamped, blended, and embossed panel–this time using Crushed Curry for the stars–and used Paper Snips to cut the tree shape out of the panel. I used the Birch Wood 3d Embossing folder to emboss the Night of Navy Card Stock panel so that the tree would have “bark.” I adhered this to a Night of Navy Card Stock card base.

I still don’t know if my Into the Night cards are a touch of genius or madness–but I had fun creating them! I encourage you to take a leap and try something new and different!
